Four University of Minnesota-Morris women wrestlers placed at the 7th Annual University National Championship sponsored by USA Wrestling on Sunday, April 13th at St. Ben's College in St. Joseph, MN.

Leading the way for the Cougars was sophomore Patrice Crenshaw (East Point, GA) at 51 kilos/112 pounds. Crenshaw overcame a first round loss to Belinda Cho of the University of Regina, the eventual champion to capture the bronze medal. In the bronze medal match, Crenshaw completely dominated the match versus Cumberland College's Sarah Hayes for a 4-0 victory.

Liz Short (Lombard, IL) wrestled back to the consolation finals after a opening round loss to eventual champion, Clarrisa Chun at 48 kilos/105 pounds. Short lost in the bronze medal match 9-3 to Gina Heizelman of the Minnesota Storm for a fourth place finish.

Freshman Sharon Jacobson (El Cajon, CA) place 6th at 63 kilos/138 pounds. Jacobson had an outstanding tournament even though she wrestled up a weight class. Jacobson lost by fall in the 5th place match to Leigha Jaymes of Missouri Valley College.

Megan Goldsmith (Black River Falls, WI) placed fourth at 77 kilos up from her normal weight class at 72 kilos/158 pounds. Goldsmith lost to Alicia Mena of Neosho County College by fall in the bronze medal match.

"Overall I was pleased with our performance," said UMM coach Doug Reese. "We lost some matches we should have won, but we also won some big matches. I am very happy with our constant improvement."
