LaCrosse, WI - Two University of Minnesota-Morris women wrestlers took home championship honors from USA Wrestlling's Northern Plains Regional Championship and secured a spot in the 2003 World Team Trials.
Katie Ross, a junior from Greensboro, NC captured championship honors at 121 pounds/55 kilos. Ross will be making her first trip to the Trials in attempting to make the U.S. National Team.
Freshman Sharon Jacobson of El Cajon, CA captured the title at 129 pounds/59 kilos. Jacobson is having an exceptional year placing high in every tournament this season, including All-American honors at both the Junior and University levels.
The top eight finishers at the U.S. Senior Open, and the champion from University Nationals, the Rockie Mountain Regional and the Northern Plains Regional qualify for the World Team Trials. This year the Trials will be held in Indianapolis on June 21-22.
The World Team Trials is a mini-tournament to decide the US National Team. The champion of the tournament will represent the U.S. in the World Championships at Madison Square Gardens in New York on September 12-13, 2003.
