UM-Morris women ranked #1 in U.S.

December 29, 2003

Colorado Springs, CO - A pair of UM-Morris sophomore women wrestlers hold down the number one ranking in theMat.com Women's Collegiate Wrestling Poll.

Ranked number one at 63 kilos/138.5 pounds is Ranae Faaborg of Radcliffe, IA. Faaborg is a sophomore Biology major. Last season Faaborg earned All-American honors in the FILA-Junior National Championships.

"Ranae is truly a success story. She came into the program with little experience or skill. But because she comes to practice every day to work and to get better, because she has the greatest attitude and is filled with humility, Ranae has climbed the ladder of success. To see this, to see her improve, this is better than any national championship," said UMM head coach Doug Reese.

"This is what the sport of wrestling teaches - that being diligent pays off," noted Reese. "Ranae will be successful far beyond the wrestling arena."

Also ranked number one in the nation is Megan Goldsmith at 80 kilos/176 pounds. Goldsmith is a sophomore Pre-Vet major from Black River Falls, WI. Goldsmith placed second last season in the FILA-Junior National Championships earning All-American honors.

Next season Goldsmith will be transferring to the University of Calgary to compete on the Dino's wrestling team. "Megan has everything you want in an athlete. She is strong, mentally tough, and she is smart. Add that to a great work ethic and a desire to be the best is a great combination. I am really going to miss working with both of them," said Reese.

Also ranked in theMat.com Poll was sophomore Tabithia Ramsey, fifth at 51 kilos/112.25 pounds, senior Katie Ross eighth at 55 kilos/121 pounds, and freshman Adrianna Cervantes eighth at 63 kilos/147.5 pounds.

UM-Morris who finished third in last seasons final rankings is currently ranked 6th in the nation in the team rankings.
