Two World champions headline qualifiers for the World Team Trials

SIOUX CITY, IA -- Two World champions, an Olympic silver medalist and three other World medalists highlight the list of qualifiers for the U.S. World Team Trials for wrestling on May 26-28 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

World champions Dremiel Byers and Sammie Henson headline a strong field of athletes that are seeking to qualify for the World Championships on Sept. 26-Oct. 2 in Guangzhou, China. Byers was a 2002 World champion in Greco-Roman wrestling at 264.5 pounds. Henson won a World title in freestyle in 1998 before following with an Olympic silver medal in 2000. Henson also made the 2005 World Team at 121 pounds.

Veterans Joe Williams is a two-time World bronze medalist in freestyle at 163 pounds. Tolly Thompson and Justin Ruiz, a pair of former University of Nebraska standouts, each won World bronze medals last year. Thompson competes in freestyle at 264.5 pounds while Ruiz is ranked No. 1 in Greco-Roman at 211.5 pounds.
