Bisek and Betts compete at Junior
World Championships

Minnesota natives Andrew Bisek and Chas Betts competed in the men’s
Greco-Roman division at the Junior World Championships in Guatemala
City, Guatemala on August 29-30, 2006.
The tournament features the top 17-20 year old wrestlers in the world.
Both wrestlers had a 1-1 record and did not place in their weight
classes.
Bisek (Chaska, Minn./USOEC/Minnesota Storm - 74 kg/163 lbs.) opened
with a 4-0, 3-0 win over Avi Youkhanov of Israel. In his second match,
Bisek was defeated by Eerik Aps of Estonia, 3-5, 1-2. When Aps was
defeated in the quarterfinals, Bisek was not eligible for the
wrestlebacks.
Betts (St. Michael, Minn./USOEC/Minnesota Storm - 84 kg/185 lbs.) won
his first match, a 4-0, 4-2 victory over Cho Hyo-Chul of Korea. In the
next round, Betts was beaten by Rustan Zhusupov of Kazakhstan, 1-2,
0-3. When Zhusupov was beaten in the semifinals, Betts was eliminated
from medal contention. Betts, also a USOEC athlete from Northern
Michigan, was second at the 2006 University World Championships earlier
this summer.
