St. Cloud State update
UPCOMING FOR THE HUSKIES: The Huskies (3-1, 1-0 NCC) will travel to the NCAA Division II Duals tournament on Jan. 19-20. The tourney will be held in Brookings, S.D. and hosted by South Dakota State.
THE RESULTS: The Huskies suffered a tough 44-0 loss at Augsburg on Jan. 10...the pain was short lived for the Huskies as they bounded back with a nice 22-17 win at home over Northern Colorado. It marked the home opener for the Huskies as well as the team 's first NCC dual of the season...Jamie Steffen gained a big 13-4 win at 125 over UNC 's #7 ranked Jason Romero to help get things going. SCSU was defeated by UNC in the next four matches before Paul Arens at 165 pinned UNC 's Brian Hufford at 6:04. At 174, Dan Duch gained a 3-1 OT win over UNC 's Shad Stagl before Nate Whiting gained a nice 8-4 win over UNC 's Ryan Guillaume at 184. SCSU 's Luke Wren charted a 5-2 win over UNC 's #5 Tom Clemen at 197 to gain the dual lead. SCSU 's #6 Dustin Darveaux added to his win belt with an 11-4 win over UNC 's Tony Schunke.
TEAM NOTES: Coach Steve Grimit (50-46 in 8 seasons) won his 50th career dual match with the Huskies1 22-17 dual win over UNC...Luke Wren was named the NCC Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 9. Wren joins the team as a senior transfer from Adams State. Wren is a graduate of Dassel-Cokato H.S. and was a Division II national qualifier in 2000 for Adams State...Dustin Darveaux leads the club with a 24-6 overall record, while Matt Neumueller is 22-8 overall...Klaus Alberts, an All-American in 1999, will miss the 2000-01 season due to injuries...in the last Division II wrestling polls, Darveaux was ranked sixth nationally at heavyweight, while Neumueller was ranked seventh...versus UNC, Neumueller lost to #8 Brody Olson by a tally of 3-1 in overtime...four NCC teams are ranked among the nation 's top 10 Division II teams (#1 UNO, #2 NDSU, #5 SDSU and #8 MSU, Mankato).
THE RECORD: SCSU is 3-1, 1-0 NCC in dual meet action this season...The Huskies finished the 1999-00 season at 9-9 in dual meet action, and 2-4 in the NCC. At the 2000 NCC meet, SCSU placed 6th.
