Mavericks Improve To Seventh In Latest Edition Of National Rankings
Edmond, Okla. --- In the latest edition of the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll, the Minnesota State University, Mankato wrestling team improved one spot to seventh with 122 points. The Mavericks trailed North Central Conference opponents Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota State, who are ranked number one and two respectively, top the poll. Central Oklahoma occupies the third spot, and South Dakota State is fourth. Ashland and Pittsburgh-Johnstown are fifth and sixth respectively, directly ahead of the Mavericks in seventh. Rounding out the top ten are Central Missouri State, Nebraska-Kearney and Findlay.
Of the twenty teams ranked, seven are members of the North Central Conference. Besides the four NCC squads ranked in the top ten, Northern Colorado is 15th, St. Cloud State is 17th, and Augustana is 20th.
Three MSU wrestlers are positioned highly in individual rankings. Senior Matt Petsinger (Ellendale, Minn.) and junior Matt Gadient (Goodhue, Minn.) are both ranked first in their respective weight classes, with Petsinger reclaiming the top position at 157 pounds and Gadient remaining at the top at 165 pounds. Sophomore Adam Kramer (New Hampton, Iowa) dropped to sixth at 133 pounds after previously being ranked fourth.
The Mavericks will host #2 North Dakota State in the finale of the 2000-01 home schedule on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Bresnan Arena in Taylor Center.
