Tue, 13 Feb 2001
Sioux Falls, S.D. -- The offices of the North Central Conference have announced that Minnesota State University, Mankato senior Matt Petsinger has been named Co-Wrestler of the Week for his performance last week along with Paul Koneche of South Dakota State. It is the first time this season Petsinger has been so honored, and the fourth time in his career.
A native of Ellendale, Minn., Petsinger dominated in five matches by going a perfect 5-0 with four victories coming by fall, and the lone match not decided by fall was over the #8 ranked wrestler in Division II, Matt Neumueller of St. Cloud State. Three of Petsinger's pins last week came against wrestlers from Division I programs.
Petsinger is currently ranked first at the 157 pound weight class in the NCAA Division II rankings. This season, he has amassed a 34-3 record with 22 pins. Earlier this year, Petsinger surpassed the 100-victory plateau for his career, becoming only the fourth MSU grappler to do so, and now owns a career record of 111-26.
