UPCOMING FOR THE HUSKIES: The #15 Huskies (8-7, 2-4 NCC) will travel to the 2001 North Central Conference championships on Saturday, Feb. 24. The tournament will be held at MSU, Mankato. Last year, SCSU placed 6th at the meet, while UNO won first place honors.

THE RESULTS: On Feb. 14, the Huskies gained a 23-16 win at St. John's University. SCSU fell behind 12-0 with losses at 133, 141 and 149 before Matt Neumueller cranked things up with a 9-6 win at 157-pounds. Paul Arens charted a big 3-0 win at 165 pounds before Dan Duch gained a 9-6 triumph at 174. At 184, Nate Whiting posted a pin at 4:30 against SJU's Chris Dykhoff to set up the showdown at 197. SCSU's #2 ranked Luke Wren and SJU's #1 ranked Brandon Novak tangled at 197, with Wren charting a 2-1 OT win. To complete the scene, Dustin Darveaux gained a technical fall win at 6:28 at heavyweight...on Feb. 16, the Huskies dropped a tough 30-7 loss against #1 ranked Nebraska-Omaha in St. Cloud. Wren was impressive once more with a 4-2 victory over #1 ranked Chad Wallace of UNO. At heavyweight, Darveaux rolled to a big 6-5 win over Lance Tolstedt of UNO.

TEAM NOTES: Coach Steve Grimit (55-52 in 8 seasons) won his 50th career dual match with the Huskies1 22-17 dual win over UNC...in eight seasons of wrestling, coach Steve Grimit never experienced a tie dual meet at SCSU. On Jan. 19, Grimit posted a pair of dual match ties. The first was a 19-19 tie against Central Missouri (SCSU won by criteria) and the second was a 22-22 tie against Augustana (SCSU lost by criteria)... Luke Wren was named the NCC Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 9. Wren, a midseason transfer from Adams State, was also named to the Division II Duals All-Tournament team...Dustin Darveaux leads the team this season with a 31-9 record, while Matt Neumueller is 29-11. Luke Wren is a near perfect 15-1 at 197 this season...Klaus Alberts, an All-American in 1999, will miss the 2000-01 season due to injuries...in the last Division II wrestling polls, Darveaux was ranked 6th nationally at heavyweight, while Wren was ranked 2nd at 197-pounds...six NCC teams are ranked among the nation's top 20 Division II teams (#1 UNO, #2 NDSU, #4 SDSU and #7 MSU, Mankato, #12 Northern Colorado, #15 ST. CLOUD STATE) as of Feb. 14...last year, Darveaux placed second in action at heavyweight at the NCC championships.

THE RECORD: SCSU finishes its dual meet season in 2000-01 with an 8-7, 2-4 NCC record...The Huskies finished the 1999-00 season at 9-9 in dual meet action, and 2-4 in the NCC.

COACHING STAFF: The Huskies are led this season by Steve Grimit (Western Illinois, 1987). Grimit is in his eighth season as head coach of the Huskies. Grimit has led the Huskies to a 54-51/.518 overall record.
