NCAA Champion wrestling team to host 14th Annual Verne Gagne Golf Classic

The 2001 NCAA Champion University of Minnesota wrestling team hosts the 14th Annual Verne Gagne Minnesota Wrestling Golf Classic, Tuesday, June 5, at Les Bolstad University of Minnesota Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn.

Always a popular event, this year's Verne Gagne Golf Classic will honor Minnesota's record-setting 2001NCAA Championship team, its 10 All-Americans and three graduating seniors &endash; Brett Lawrence, Brad Pike and Josh Krebs.

Open to the general public, the event costs $125 per person. The price includes lunch, dinner, beverages, green fees and a cart. Fans and supporters of the Golden Gophers may also choose to sponsor a hole or donate door prizes for the raffle. The "grand prize" of the raffle is a large-screen TV. The proceeds of the Classic help fund the Minnesota wrestling program. The deadline to sign up is May 29.

The Classic features a five-person team scramble format. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with lunch at 11 a.m. and golf beginning at noon. The dinner starts at 5 p.m. followed by the program at 6 p.m.
