Nationally Ranked Johnnies Top Blugolds, 25-12

Collegeville, Minn. - The Saint John's University wrestling team won seven of 10 matches against Wisconsin-Eau Claire to claim a 25-12 dual meet victory at Sexton Arena on the SJU campus on Saturday, Jan. 13.
The Johnnies won the first four matches to gain an early 13-0 lead. SJU was led senior Brandon Novak, who defeated freshman Nick Campbell at 197-pounds by fall at 4:42. Novak improved to 5-0 on the season is currently ranked number one in the nation at 197-pounds. SJU sophomore Chuck Griffith defeated freshman Kasey Shoquist, 9-0, at 133-pounds for the major decision. SJU's other nationally ranked wrestler, freshman Brian Vetter, won a 3-2 decision at 141-pounds against freshman Jake Lawrence. Vetter is currently ranked eighth at 141-pounds.
The Blugolds won matches at 165-pounds, 184-pounds and heavyweight, including a fall at 5:45 by sophomore Adam Kolo at 184-pounds against sophomore Nate Rose of SJU.
SJU improves to 3-2 overall on the season and is currently ranked number 27 in the latest NCAA Division III national rankings. Wis.-Eau Claire falls to 4-2 on the season.
