Collegeville, Minn. - The 15th-ranked St. Cloud State wrestling team charted a big non-conference win at St. John's on Feb. 14, by a tally of 23-16. The win pushes the Huskies' record to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in the always rugged NCC. SJU falls to 12-4 overall. SJU jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead in the match with wins at 133-, 141- and 149-pounds before the Huskies started their comeback with Matt Neumueller's 9-6 win at 157-pounds over Mike Ritt.
Paul Arens gained a SCSU win at 165 with a 3-0 deicision before Dan Duch posted a 9-6 win for SCSU at 174-pounds to make it 12-9. SCSU gained its first lead of the night when Nate Whiting posted a pin at 184-pounds against SJU's Chris Dykhoff. In action at 197-pounds, SCSU's
Luke Wren gained a 2-1 double OT win over SJU's Brandon Novak. Of note, Wren is the nation's #2 ranked Division II wrestler at 197-pounds and Novak is ranked #1 in the Division III ranks. At heavyweight, SCSU iced the match with a technical fall victory by Dustin Darveaux over SJU's Adam Clemen at 6:28.
In the final match, Matt Vos of SJU posted a 10-2 win over SCSU's Steve Weber. The Huskies will continue their season on Feb. 16, with a 7 p.m. match at home against #1 ranked Nebraska-Omaha.
