Joel Fugleberg selected to NCAA II Academic All-American Wrestling Team

Kenosha, WI - UM-Morris junior Joel Fugleberg (Roseau, MN) has been selected for the second straight year to the NCAA II Academic All-American Wrestling Team. The 2002 NCAA II Academic All-American Wrestling Team was announced Saturday, March 9th at the NCAA II National Wrestling Championships in Kenosha, WI. Fugleberg was one of 67 student-athletes from 30 colleges and universities to be honored.

Joel Fugleberg is a three-year starter on the University of Minnesota-Morris wrestling team at both 141 and 149 pounds. Fugleberg has placed in 15 collegiate tournaments and won 62 collegiate matches in the past three seasons. In addition Fugleberg has served as the Cougars team captain and has gained All-NSIC honors and has been honored as the "NSIC Wrestler of the Week."

Fugleberg is a Biology major with 3.31 grade point average.

"Joel is a quality student-athlete," said UMM head coach Doug Reese. He has shown success on both the mat and in the classroom in a very tough and challenging environment. Most of all, Joel's life expresses both character and class, and he is not afraid to stand up for his beliefs. Our wrestling program has been blessed by Joel's commitment to excellence. We need a lot more Joel Fuglebergs at UM-Morris," noted Reese.

The UM-Morris wrestling team has produced a total of 26 NCAA II Academic All-Americans in the past seven seasons.
