April 24, 2002 - Itasca Community College (ICC) Dean of Students, Bill Maki, is proud to announce the hiring of Shane Holm for the position of head wrestling coach at ICC..He noted that it is very gratifying to have an ICC graduate accept the position."Under Coach Holm's leadership, the Itasca program will continue to develop quality students and wrestlers," added Maki.
Holm wrestled for ICC from 1992-94.Retired ICC coach, Mike Rybak was rapid to state his praises for the selection of Coach Holm." Shane is a quality person and a member of the young enthusiastic group of coaches that we need in the sport of wrestling," said Coach Rybak."It will be fun to see him take his coaching to the next level and take the college wrestling program to the highest level possible.He is willing to go the extra mile," added Rybak.

Holm was a 1990 Graduate of Grand Rapids High School where he was a three-time State place winner. He wrestled on four Section championship teams.
Holm graduated from Itasca Community College in 1992 where he was a two-time MCCC State Runner-up, a two-time National entry, and was named ICC MVP for the 1991-92 season.
After Itasca, he went on to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he graduated in 1995. While at Stevens Point Holm was an Academic All-American, an NCAA Div. III Runner-up at 177 pounds and was named UWSP Male Athlete of the Year in 1995.
From 1996-99 Shane was a Phy Ed and Health Instructor at Greenway HS as well as an assistant wrestling coach at Grand Rapids High School
Since 1999 he has been teaching and became the head wrestling coach at Grand Rapids where he has coached nine State Place winners, five State finalist and two State Champions.
Shane and his wife Sue have two energetic sons, Brody and Brock.
"It has been very fulfilling to teach and coach wrestling at Grand Rapids H.S.The Grand Rapids community provides tremendous support to the program, and I have enjoyed being a part of this program.I would like to give special thanks to my coaching staff and the dedicated wrestlers of Grand Rapids H.S. While I will miss coaching at the high school level, I am enthusiastic about taking my coaching career to a new level. ICC
provided an excellent education for me, and I look forward to giving back to this program. I believe I am a good fit for the program because I understand and believe in the college, program and the many things this area has to offer," commented Coach Holm.
