FARGO, ND - Six standout prep wrestlers from three states have signed North Central Conference and National Letters of Intent to attend North Dakota State University and compete in wrestling.
The announcement came May 17th from Bison head wrestling coach Bucky Maughn.
The six student-athletes include Minnesota state champion Joeb Oyster of Verndale, MN, three-time Minnesota state placewinner Adam Haake from Winona, MN, South Dakota state champion Tim Curran from Elk Point, SD, three-time Minnesota state tournament placewinner Eric DuChene of Faribault, MN, North Dakota state champion Brent Wunderlich of Velva, ND, and three-time Minnesota state placewinner Matt Herman from Burnsville, MN.
Here is a capsule bio on each signee:
Joeb Oyster - Minnesota state champion at 130-pounds from Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale High School (Verndale, MN) with a 41-1 senior year record Projected to be a 133 or 141 pounder at NDSU.
Adam Haake - Three-time Minnesota state placewinner including third in 2002 for Winona High School (Winona, MN) Minnesota State Roman Greco Champion in 2000, 2001 and 2002 Minnesota state Feestyle Champion in 2000 and 2001 Northern Plains Roman Greco champion in 2000, 2001 and 2002 Northern Plains Freestyle Champion in 2002 All-American at junior nationals in 2001 Projected to be a 184 or 197-pound competitor for the Bison.
Tim Curran - South Dakota state champion at 145 pounds in 2002 from Jefferson High School (Elk Point, SD) Placed fourth in South Dakota in 2001 Career record of 182-59 with a 47-1 mark and 32 pins his senior year Recorded 122 career pins for seventh on the SD all-time pin list SD state Freestyle champion in 2001 and 2002 All-American in the Junior Olympics All-Conference in football and track Member of the National Honor Society and Academic All-State Wrestling Team Projected to be a 149 or 157-pounder for the Herd.
Eric DuChene - Three-time Minnesota State Tournament placewinner from Faribault High School (Faribault, MN) Placed third, fourth and fifth in the MN state tournaments Posted a career record of 125-21 with a junior and senior year combined record of 75-6 Named to the Minnesota Academic All-State team Projected to be a 157 or 165-pound Bison wrestler.
Brent Wunderlich - North Dakota state champion at 215 pounds in 2002 from Velva High School (Velva, ND)..Took third place at 189 pounds in state in 2001 Projected to be a 197-pound NDSU matman.
Matt Herman - Three-time Minnesota state placewinner from Burnsville High School (Burnsville, MN) Placed second, third and fourth in the Minnesota state tournament Posts a career record of 149-29 with 81 pins Tallied 289 takedowns his senior year Two-time member of the MN/USA Freestyle team All-American in Freestyle 2001 All-Metro Football Team Two-time All-Conference in football Projected to be a 174-pounder for the Bison.
NDSU captured its fourth NCAA Division II national championship in 2001 to complement the titles in 1988, 1998, and 2000 along with 16 NCC titles under Maughan. The Bison came in second in the nation in 2002 and posted their 34th consecutive winning dual-meet season, finishing 13-2 overall and 6-0 in the NCC.
