The two-time defending NCAA Champion University of Minnesota wrestling team hosts the 15th Annual Verne Gagne Minnesota Wrestling Golf Classic, Tuesday, June 4, at Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings, Minn.
Always a popular event, this year's Verne Gagne Golf Classic will honor Minnesota's 2002 NCAA Championship team, its two national champions -- Jared Lawrence and Luke Becker, its seven All-Americans and three graduating seniors -- Leroy Vega, Chad Erikson and Owen Elzen.
Open to the general public, the event costs $125 per person. The price includes brunch, dinner, a golf towel, green fees and a cart. Fans and supporters of the Golden Gophers may also choose to sponsor a hole or green, or donate door prizes for the raffle. For $40, devotees of the Maroon and Gold can attend the evening program only. The proceeds of the Classic help fund the Minnesota wrestling program.
The Classic features a five-person team scramble format. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. with brunch at 9 a.m. and golf beginning at 10:30 a.m. The dinner starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the program at 5:30 p.m.
