Mankato announces four signees

Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State University, Mankato head coach Jim Makovsky has announced that four student-athletes have signed National Letters Of Intent to join the Maverick wrestling program starting in the 2002-03 school year. Incoming freshmen Bryce Bahe, Travis Krinkie and Joey Neigum will join junior-to-be Jason Reicks as new members of the Mavericks. The quartet of signees are in addition to Ben Janike and Jason Rhoten, who signed their letters-of-intent earlier this year.

Bahe will come to MSU after a stellar career at Goodland (Kan.) High School where he posted a career record of 121-24 and was a four-time top-six finisher at the Kansas state high school championships. Projected to compete at 125 pounds for the Mavericks, the Goodland, Kan., native also is a National High School All-American. "Bryce comes from a very strong wrestling family, a family that we were really impressed with when they came on their recruiting visit. He should be able to come in and help solidify our lower weights," said Makovsky.

Krinkie posted a 34-4 record during the 2001-02 season for Blue Earth Area High School and won the Minnesota state high school AA title at 160 pounds. A native of Blue Earth, Minn., Krinkie was coached by former MSU All-American Jack Eustice until his senior season and posted a career record of 67-18. "Travis comes from a tremendous program, and he will be able to adapt to college practices quickly since the quality of the training done at Blue Earth Area is so high and close to the college level," said Makovsky.

Neigum had a career record of 138-42 for Bismarck (N.D.) Century High School and was a four-time North Dakota state high school placer, including finishes of first, second, third and fourth. A National High School All-American, the native of Bismarck, N.D., is projected to wrestle at 125 pounds for the Mavericks. "I am real excited to have Joey join our program. He comes from a great wrestling family, and he is technically a very sound wrestler," said Makovsky.

Reicks spent the past two seasons at Ellsworth Community College where he was a two-time junior college All-American. A native of New Hampton, Iowa, Reicks was a two-time Iowa high school state champion at New Hampton High School. "Jason will continue the tradition of quality wrestlers we have had from New Hampton at MSU. He will help solidify our upper weights, and I am extremely impressed with his work ethic and his attitude," said Makovsky.
