Minnesota announces TV broadcast dates

The defending NCAA champion and current No. 1 University of Minnesota wrestling program has announced the dates and times for television broadcasts of home dual meets for the 2001-02 season. The televised meets are broadcast on Fox Sports North (FSN).

The following two dual meets are scheduled for live broadcast: February 17 vs. Illinois and February 24 vs. Ohio State. Both meets are at 2 p.m. at Williams Arena. Clay Matvick and former Golden Gopher Willy Short will serve as the broadcast team for both dual meets.

In addition to the televised meets, Minnesota is hosting one of the most anticipated dual meets in recent college wrestling history &endash; a border battle between the Golden Gophers and the archrival Iowa Hawkeyes at Minneapolis' Target Center on Friday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. Undoubtedly the highlight of the 2001-02 schedule, the interstate rivalry bout exists as an attempt by the Golden Gophers to break the NCAA wrestling dual meet attendance record of 15,291, set on Feb. 22, 1992, when Iowa defeated Iowa State 29-8 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.

Tickets for University of Minnesota wrestling meets can be purchased by calling 612-624-8080 or 1-800-U-GOPHER. Tickets are also available for purchase online at www.gophersports.com.
