Darveaux sets career win record at SCSU
Jan. 9, 2003
St. Cloud, Minn. -- St. Cloud State University senior heavyweight wrestler #2 Dustin Darveaux (Pipestone/H.S.) broke a team record for career wins with his 2-1 victory over #8 Baron Blachard of Northern State on Jan. 8.
Darveaux, who is ranked second in the latest NCAA Division II heavyweight poll, moved his career record to 127-37 and that total breaks the old record of 126 wins set by Andy Reigstad from 1993-94. On the season, Darveaux is nearly flawless with a 22-1 record. He is on track to break the current team season win record of 38, which Darveaux hit last year at 38-10 on the way to a fourth place national finish and All-America status at heavyweight. Reigstad (1993-94) and Gene Hanemann (1994-95) also enjoyed 38-win seasons during their careers at SCSU.
A two-time All-American, Darveaux has won four tournament titles this season and that includes crowns at the SDSU Williamson Open, the NDSU Bison Open, the Northern Iowa Open and the SCSU Invitational.
Darveaux and the rest of the Huskies will be aiming for success this season at the 2003 North Central Conference championships (March 2) and the 2003 NCAA Division II championships (March 14-15). As a team, the Huskies are 0-2 in dual meets this year and most recently dropped a tough 22-14 decision at Northern State. SCSU will continue its season on Jan. 10, with a 1:30 p.m. home meet against Northern Colorado.
