Greetings Everyone,
The Viking wrestlers returned from Columbus, OH, Monday morning at about 8:00 AM. The team earned fifth place at the Division II National Dual Championships. Along the way, the Viking results were as follows:
Nebraska-Kearney won the tournament defeating Nebraska-Omaha in the championship match 24-17. Central Oklahoma defeated Pitt-Johnstown for third place, and NDSU defeated SDSU for seventh place 26-18. Augie was the second highest finishing NCC team, and it really was a great team effort for the Vikings.
Individually, the top performances were:
Our other guys came up with some big wins and strong efforts when we needed it most. The event was a big confidence booster for the squad, and it should help motivate the guys for the remaining weeks of training and competition.
Next up for the Viking wrestlers are dual meets with Dakota Wesleyan and UNO. These are both road events, and they are scheduled for Jan. 30 and Jan. 31. Thank you all for your continued support!
I would also like to announce that the Elmen Center will play host to an International Level dual meet between a USA all-star team and a team from Belarus. The USA squad will be coached by Lincoln McIlravy and will also feature SD native Ryan Tobin. The event will be on Feb. 12th. There will be a youth clinic at 5:30, and wrestling will begin around 7:00 PM. The price for a ticket is $10, and they will only be available at the door. We would love to have you come. Please let me know if you would like more information on this event.
I would ask also that you keep Tyler Bullerman's family in your prayers. His sister, Tara, continues to battle Leukemia.
Thanks for reading,
Kraig Presler,
Augie Wrestling
