SCSU's Neumueller gains #1 national ranking
Jan. 23, 2003
St. Cloud, Minn. -- St. Cloud State University senior wrestler Matt Neumueller, a resident of Medford, Wis. and grad of Medford High School, received the number one ranking at 165-pounds in the latest NCAA Division II poll released on Jan. 22.
Neumueller has been impressive for the Huskies this season with a 15-4 record to his credit. Most recently, Neumueller collected three victories at the NCAA Division II National Duals Meet in Columbus, Ohio on Jan. 18-19. Earlier this season, Neumueller claimed first place in the 165-pound division at the St. Cloud State Invitational and was named that tournament's most valuable wrestler. In his career at SCSU, Neumueller owns a 90-54 career record.
He was joined in the national spotlight by senior teammate Dustin Darveaux, a resident of Pipestone and graduate of Pipestone High School. Darveaux gained the number two ranking at heavyweight in the latest poll released by the NWCA. Darveaux, who now owns the school record for career wins (131), is 26-1 this season and that includes first place finishes at four major invitationals this year. A two-time All-American, Darveaux only needs 13 more wins this season to break the team's season record for wins of 38 -- which Darveaux tied in 2001-02 at 38-10.
The Huskies (1-5) will continue their season on Jan. 24, by hosting #3 ranked Nebraska-Omaha. The dual meet in SCSU's Halenbeck Hall will kick-off at 7 p.m. For more information, please call 320-255-2141.
