St. Cloud State update

THE RESULTS: #3 ranked University of Nebraska-Omaha posted a 40-3 North Central Conference win over St. Cloud State Friday night at Halenbeck Hall. SCSU senior Matt Nuemueller (Medford, WI), ranked number one at 165, posted the lone victory for the Huskies, a 2-1 decision over Blu Wahle. Nuemueller improved his record to 16-4 with the win. UNO's Dan Hilario (125). Dan Vech (174) and Chad Wallace (197), all won by fall for the Mavericks. UNO is 4-1 in duals and 1-0 in the NCC. SCSU is 1-6 and 0-2

TEAM NOTES: Dustin Darveaux set a new team record for career wins with his 2-1 win at Northern State. Darveaux is 26-2 this season and now owns a 131-38 career record, which bypasses the record of 126 wins set by Andy Reigstad, who had 126 from 1993-97. Darveaux had 38 wins in 2001-02, which tied the team record for most wins in a season along with Reigstad (1993-94) and Gene Hanemann (1994-95). Darveaux has won an impressive four tournament titles in 2002-03 (Williamson Open, the Bison Open, Northern Iowa Open and the SCSU Invitational), which is one short of the current team record. Of note, he lost just his second match of the season vs. UNO on Jan. 24...in the latest NCAA DII rankings, Matt Neumueller is ranked #1 at 165 and Darveaux is ranked #2 at HWT ...Neumueller, the NCC Wrestler of the Week on Dec. 16, owns an 16-4 record this year...SCSU's other wrestler above .500 this season is 184-pounder Gerard Evans, who owns a 10-6 record this winter... Duncombe and Darveaux both qualified for nationals in 2002...Darveaux and Neumueller also qualified for nationals in 2001...the 2003 NCC championships will be held in Fargo, N.D. on March 2...the 2003 NCAA championships will be held in Wheeling, W.V. on March 14-15...SCSU opponent this week is #11 Minnesota State, Mankato. Other ranked NCC teams this year include #3 UNO, #4 Augustana, #7 NDSU, #8 SDSU and #16 UNC.

UPCOMING ACTION: The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (1-5, 0-1 NCC) will host #11 Minnesota State, Mankato, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. This North Central Conference dual match will be held in SCSU's Halenbeck Hall and admission is free. On Feb. 1, the Huskies will travel down Hwy. 23 to Marshall for a 4 p.m. dual meet against Southwest State.
