Augustana Update

February 4, 2003

Greetings Everyone,

The Viking split two dual meets last week. They earned a victory last Thursday evening, 38-13, over Dakota Wesleyan. On Friday, the Mavericks of UNO defeated Augie by a score of 29-10. Austin Scarset, Ryan King, Tom Meester, and Matt McDougall were undefeated for the Vikings. Ryan was unable to wrestle in the UNO match due to an illness. Matt McDougall was very impressive in his varsity debut--winning by tech fall and major. For complete results of the matches, please visit our web site at www.augie.edu.

The loss was certainly an indicator that we have more work to do before the NCC tourney. However, the guys remain confident that they will be ready for that event. This week, the team travels to Colorado. We will face Colorado School of Mines on Feb. 6th, and we wrestle UNC on Feb. 7th. Both matches start at 7 PM mountain time.

The Viking roster with season records will be as follows:

125 Aaron Graumann 23-7
133 Andre VanderVelde 16-13
141 Ryan King 18-8
149 Austin Scarset 20-10
157 Matt McDougall 11-5
165 Dustin Wilking 14-5
174 Tom Meester 27-6
184 Sam Kenton 21-7
197 Jeremy Murphy 1-8
285 Cris Bietz 23-9

The rest of the schedule after these duals is all at home until the NCC tournament in Fargo.

Just a reminder, next Wed, Feb. 12. Augie will host an international dual between Belarus and USA. US team is coached by Lincoln McIlravy, and features Ryan Tobin from SD as well as NCAA champs Doug Schwab and Donny Pritzlaff. Tickets are $10, and they are only available at the door. Lincoln will also be conducting a clinic at 5:30. Clinic and event are included in one $10 price. Hope you can make it!

Bye until next week,

Kraig Presler,
Augie Wrestling
