Jared Lawrence named Big Ten Co-Wrestler of the Week

University of Minnesota senior wrestler Jared Lawrence (Sandpoint, Idaho/Sandpoint HS) has been named the Big Ten Co-Wrestler of the Week, following his outstanding performances last weekend on the road at No. 15 Penn State and No. 3 Ohio State. Lawrence shares this week's award with Ryan Bertin, Michigan's sophomore 157-pounder.
The returning NCAA champion at 149 pounds, Lawrence posted two wins over ranked opponents last weekend in a pair of Big Ten victories for the Golden Gophers. Lawrence, ranked No. 2 nationally, notched a 25-7 technical fall on Penn State's No. 17 Nate Galloway. He continued his standout week, dropping No. 14 Josh Daugherty of Ohio State, 11-3. With the wins, Lawrence improved to 19-2 on the season and moved into a tie for ninth place in Minnesota's all-time wins list with a record of 117-21-0.
The third-ranked Golden Gophers host No. 7 Michigan on Friday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m., and Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. Both Big Ten Conference meets are at the Sports Pavilion.
