THE RESULTS: On Feb. 7, the Huskies dropped a close 22-19 decision to #16 MSU, Moorhead at Halenbeck Hall. SCSU opened the match with wins by #1 Matt Neumueller at 165 and #8 Jon Duncombe at 174, and Luke Pohlmeier charted a solid 5-2 win at 197. #4 Dustin Darveaux made quick work of Scotty DCamp at heavyweight with a pin at 1:35 before MSUM charged back with wins at 125, 133 and 141. Blake Christopherson gained a strong 6-4 win at 149-pounds before Moorhead iced the match with a win at 157...on Feb. 4, the Huskies wrestled at #2 Augsburg (Division III) in Minneapolis and lost 32-9. The Huskies enjoyed wins at that match by Pohlmeier at 197, Neumueller at 165 and Darveaux at heavyweight, who gained a 12-2 major over #5 Mike Flanagan.
TEAM NOTES: The Feb. 7, match vs. Moorhead was the final home appearances for SCSU seniors Dustin Darveuax, Matt Neumueller and Brad Hunter...Dustin Darveaux gained his 10th pin of the season on Feb. 7, with a 1:35 win over MSUM's Scotty DCamp...he also set a new team record for career wins with his 2-1 win at Northern State. Darveaux is 30-2 this season and now owns a 135-38 career record, which bypasses the record of 126 wins set by Andy Reigstad, who had 126 from 1993-97. Darveaux had 38 wins in 2001-02, which tied the team record for most wins in a season along with Reigstad (1993-94) and Gene Hanemann (1994-95). Darveaux has won an impressive four tournament titles in 2002-03 (Williamson Open, the Bison Open, Northern Iowa Open and the SCSU Invitational), which is one short of the current team record...in the latest NCAA DII rankings, Matt Neumueller is ranked #1 at 165, Darveaux is ranked #2 at HWT and Duncombe is 8th at 174 ...Neumueller, the NCC Wrestler of the Week on Dec. 16, owns an 20-4 record this year...the 2003 NCC championships will be held in Fargo, N.D. on March 2...the 2003 NCAA championships will be held in Wheeling, W.V. on March 14-15.
UPCOMING ACTION: St. Cloud State University (1-10, 0-3 NCC) will continue its 2002-03 season this week with a trip to the Sioux Falls, S.D. region. On Friday, Feb. 14, the Huskies will wrestle at #8 South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D. at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 15, the Huskies will travel to Sioux Falls, for a 2 p.m. showdown against #6 Augustana College.
