THE RESULTS: SCSU suffered a tough 26-13 loss at #6 Augustana College on Feb. 15. SCSU gained a 4-2 win by Dan Duch at 157 pounds and a 7-4 win by Matt Neumueller at 165-pounds. At 197-pounds, Luke Pohlmeier added a nice 7-4 win over AC's Jeremy Murphy and heavyweight Dustin Darveaux continued to roll with a 12-4 major decision over AC's Cris Bietz...the Huskies dropped a 25-15 loss at #8 South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D. on Feb. 14. SCSU gained wins in the dual at 174-pounds, heavyweight, 133-pounds and 141-pounds. #8 Jon Duncombe got SCSU on the board first with a big 4-2 upset over SDSU's Bryan Cowdin, the nation's #5 ranked wrestler at 174-pounds. #4 Dustin Darveaux collected a forfeit win at heavyweight, and Derek Miller posted a solid 8-5 win over Kris Dozark at 133-pounds. To complete the match, John Dirksen gained a 9-5 win over Jacob Schuring at 141-pounds.
TEAM NOTES: Jon Duncombe faced two nationally ranked wrestlers this weekend. He gained a 4-2 win over #5 Bryan Cowdin of SDSU and lost 6-2 to #1 Tom Meester of AC at 174...Dustin Darveaux gained his 10th pin of the season on Feb. 7, with a 1:35 win over MSUM's Scotty DCamp...he also set a new team record for career wins with his 2-1 win at Northern State. Darveaux is 32-2 this season and now owns a 137-38 career record, which bypasses the record of 126 wins set by Andy Reigstad, who had 126 from 1993-97. Darveaux had 38 wins in 2001-02, which tied the team record for most wins in a season along with Reigstad (1993-94) and Gene Hanemann (1994-95). Darveaux has won an impressive four tournament titles in 2002-03 (Williamson Open, the Bison Open, Northern Iowa Open and the SCSU Invitational), which is one short of the current team record...in the latest NCAA DII rankings, Matt Neumueller is ranked #1 at 165, Darveaux is ranked #4 at HWT and Duncombe is 8th at 174 ...Neumueller, the NCC Wrestler of the Week on Dec. 16, owns an 21-5 record this year...the 2003 NCC championships will be held in Fargo, N.D. on March 2...the 2003 NCAA championships will be held in Wheeling, W.V. on March 14-15.
UPCOMING ACTION: St. Cloud State University (1-12, 0-5 NCC) will complete its 2002-03 dual meet schedule on Saturday, Feb. 22, with a 7:30 p.m. match at #3 North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D.
