Greetings wrestling fans,
The end-of-season tournaments are upon us! Best wishes to those of you working with high school teams as you prepare for the state tournaments.
The Augie Vikings will be travelling to Fargo, ND, to compete on Sunday, Mar. 2nd, in the NCC tournament. It should be a very exciting tourney this season, and the Vikings are well prepared to make a strong run to finish the season.
If you have not already heard, we dropped two close dual meets to NDSU and SDSU to close out the dual season. Injuries played a big part in the outcome in both matches. We lost by one point to NDSU, 18-17, after forfeiting the 197 pound match. Matt McDougall, our freshman 157 pounder, stunned the crowd with a 13-7 upset of #1 ranked Paul Carlson in this dual. Unfortuneately, Cris Bietz was injured in his victory over the NDSU heavyweight. The loss of Cris probably cost us the match against SDSU. We lost that dual 22-18. We gave them 12 forfeit points at the top of the line-up. Bietz should be back for the NCC tourney.
Here is the likely Viking line-up for the NCC qualifier:
The top four at each weight class qualify for the NCAA II championships to be held in Wheeling, WV on March 14-15.
Thanks for your support!
Kraig Presler,
Augie wrestling
