St. Cloud State University senior wrestler Dustin Darveaux gained a first place finish in the heavyweight division at the 2002 Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open on Nov. 9, in Brookings, S.D. In the title bout, Darveaux defeated Baron Blanchard of Northern State by a 5-1 margin.
To reach the finals, Darveaux posted a 1:54 pin in the first round against Antonio BArber of Iowa Central College. In the second round, Darveaux pinned Scottie D'Camp of Minnesota State, Moorhead. In the third round, Darveaux edged North Dakota State's Chris Tuchsher 3-2. To reach the finals, Darveaux pinned Augustana's Cris Bietz at 3:26.
SCSU's other wrestler at the Open was Karl Knothe who earned a 3:43 pin against Nick Hitler of Edgewater College before losing to Mary's Jeremy Englehart in the second round. There were no team scores kept at the Open.
