Greetings wrestling fans:
The Vikings opened their competitive season last Saturday, Nov. 9th, at the Daktronics Open in Brookings, SD. The Vikes had a strong showing with the following people placing in the top four of their weight class:
In addition to the above wrestlers, Chris Trampe lost two close matches at 125. Mike Gibson went 1-2 at 133. Mike Bonander was 3-2 at 141. Matt McDougall earned two victories at 149, and Ben Caven-Johnson split his four matches at 157. At 285, Ray O'Connor lost two decisions. Overall, the Vikings were 34-19 on the day with 10 victories by fall.
Augustana will wrestle in the UNO Open on Nov. 23rd. It is rumored that many top D-I programs will attend that tourney as well. It should be a good test for our young team. Several of our wrestlers will compete this coming Saturday in Mitchell, SD. If you would like to see our complete schedule, please visit www.augie.edu/athletics/wrestling/wrestling.html.
We have been working hard, and although we have only one senior in the line-up. We are optimistic that Augie will remain in the top ten at season's end.
Thanks and enjoy the 2002-2003 amateur wrestling season!
Kraig Presler, Augie Wrestling
