November 26, 2002
MOORHEAD, MN -- Third-ranked North Dakota State won the first seven bouts and rolled to a 38-4 win over Minnesota State Moorhead at Alex Nemzek Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 26, in the Bison's first dual of the season.
NDSU (1-0) extended its winning streak over the Dragons to 30 straight matches and upped its all-time record against MSU Moorhead to 31-14.
MSU Moorhead (2-2) won only at 184 pounds, where No. 8-ranked Ryan Kopiasz rolled up a 15-1 major decision over NDSU freshman Adam Dahlstrom. The Bison didn't trail in a single bout to that point.
The Bison's Nick Magee won a 17-7 major decision over Ben Keen at 133 pounds in the second bout of the night to put NDSU up 7-0.
NDSU redshirt freshman Mathias Bitz pinned Mitch Jackson midway through the second period at 141 and, after back-to-back decisions by Zach Stevens and top-ranked Paul Carlson, Bison junior Mike Fiedler put the match well out of reach with a pin of Josh Jansen in the third period at 165 pounds.
Thad Pike won at 174 for the Herd, No. 4-ranked junior Brian Kraemer recorded his first pin of the year at 197, and heavyweight Joe Bryce outlasted MSUM's Scott DCamp for a 4-0 win in the night's final bout.
Matt Strawser earned a 6-2 decision at 125 to improve to 10-1, and Bitz's first pin of the season upped his record to 10-2. That Bison duo is tied for the second most wins on the squad this year behind freshman heavyweight Dustin Benz, who is 12-6.
The Bison return to the mat Dec. 6-7 at the Las Vegas Invitational. Several of the nation's top Division I and II teams will wrestle there.
