St. Cloud State to host tournament

St. Cloud, MN (USA) -- St. Cloud State UIniversity will host the 32nd annual St. Cloud State Wrestling Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, in the University's Halenbeck Hall.

The 13-team tournament will feature many of the nation's top wrestlers at the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA levels. #3 North Dakota State, the defending SCSU Invitational team champion, is slated to participate in this year's invitational along with perennial NCAA Division III power Augsburg College.

Other teams slated to wrestle at the invitational include #20 St. Cloud State, #19 Minnesota State, Moorhead, St. John's, Concordia-Moorhead, Dickinson State, Jamestown, Mary, Minnesota West, Ridgewater C.C., and Southwest State.

The Huskies will be led by senior heavyweight Dustin Darveaux, who recently claimed the top spot at the Northern Iowa Open on Dec. 7. In 2001, Darveaux captured first place in the heavyweight division at the SCSU Invitational. He is currently ranked #2 in the nation at the NCAA Division II level with a 17-1 overall record.

Other nationally ranked Division II grapplers slated to perform at the meet include NDSU's Matt Strawser (#4 at 125), SW State's Josh Soupi (#7 at 133), NDSU's Paul Carlson (#1 at 157), Moorhead's Nate Hanson (#8 at 157), NDSU's Michael Fielder (#3 at 165), NDSU's Brian Kraemer (#3 at 197), Northern State's Barron Blanchard (#3 at heavyweight) and SCSU's Darveaux (#2 at heavyweight).
