The SJU wrestling team competed at the annual MIAC Duals on Saturday, Jan. 24, at St. Olaf in Northfield and finished second with a 2-1 record. The Johnnies defeated St. Olaf 49-6 and Concordia-Moorhead 34-9, but fell to number two nationally ranked Augsburg 34-9. The Johnnies won five matches against the Oles by pin, three matches by pin against the Cobbers and then three decisions against the Auggies.

Senior Matt Vos, Arlington, went 3-0 at 125 pounds to win the Carl Larson Trophy as the meet's most valuable wrestler. Vos is currently ranked number five in NCAA Division III and defeated La Thor from St. Olaf by fall in 13 seconds, Kevin McBride of Concordia by fall in 11 seconds and then number one nationally ranked Matt Shankey from Augsburg by a 5-3 decision.

Sophomore Dan Willaert, North Mankato, at 184 pounds and sophomore Dan Fiecke, Winsted, at 197 pounds also went 3-0 on the day for SJU.

SJU is 9-4 in dual matches this season. SJU will travel to the Al Hanke Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 9 a.m. in Elmhurst, Ill.
