Augustana College update

February 17, 2004

THIS WEEK: The No. 8 Augustana College wrestling team (6-5, 1-2 NCC) concludes the regular season portion of its schedule this week with a pair of North Central Conference duals. On Wednesday, the Vikings entertain No. 3 Nebraska-Omaha (9-2, 3-0 NCC) in a 7 p.m. dual in the Elmen Center. Then on Thursday Augustana travels to Brookings, S.D., to face South Dakota State (4-9, 1-3 NCC) in a 7 p.m. dual at Frost Arena.

UP NEXT: Augustana heads to the Northern Regional Championships in St. Cloud, Minn., on Sunday, February 29. The regional championships, which features teams from the North Central Conference and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, serve as the qualifying tournament for the NCAA Division II Championships. The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the national championships, which will be held March 12-13 in Mankato, Minn.

COACHING STAFF: Jason Reitmeier (Augustana, 1997) is in his first season as head coach of the Augustana wrestling team after serving as an assistant coach for the Vikings the previous six seasons. Reitmeier was a two-time All-American for the Vikings. He won the 1997 national championship at 142 pounds after placing third at 134 pounds in 1996. He did win the North Central Conference title at 134 pounds in 1996. Reitmeier's assistant coaches this season are Jacob Ramos, a former Viking All-American, and former Viking standout Ryan Carlson.
