NCAA finals live on TV March 20
By Eddie Goldman/ADCC Wrestling Editor
March 6, 2004
For years the wrestling community has been asking for live coverage of the world's oldest sport. Now we are finally getting it, and in prime time to boot.
This year the finals of the 2004 NCAA Div. I Wrestling Championships will be broadcast live on ESPN2, starting at 6:30 PM EST and running until about 9 PM EST on Saturday, March 20. Make sure to check your local listings and local times, as the tournament's schedule is listed in local, Central time, with the finals slated to begin at 5:30 PM CST.
What is also important to note is than ESPN is not using the NCAA wrestling championships as filler while it runs major programming on its flagship network. ESPN will be running some golf event from 3 to 7 PM EST, then European figure skating from 7 to 9 PM EST, and then cheerleading afterwards (I kid you not, as the late talk show legend and ex-wrestler Jack Paar might have said).
Perhaps if the ratings are strong enough this year, ESPN could put the wrestling on its main network and something else on ESPN2 in the future. That, however, depends on how many of YOU watch this year's live broadcast.
