SMSU Wrestlers Honored By NSIC

Marshall, MN: Southwest Minnesota State's Joel Wipperfurth (Dane, WI) was named to the All-NSIC honorable mention team, while Shawn Plumley (Bird Island, MN) was named the NSIC Rookie of the Year.

The announcement came from the league's office in Minneapolis, MN,on Monday.

Plumley, a 156 pound freshman, recorded a 23-13 record in his first season with the Mustangs. He was named NSIC co-wrestler of the week earlier in the season on December 4, 2003.

Wipperfurth, a 197 pound sophomore, earned his first All-NSIC honorable mention award. He had a record of 12-13 this season, with a 2-1 record in the NSIC.

Baron Blanchard of Northern State was named the NSIC Wrestler of the Year. Blanchard, a four time NSIC champion finished third at the 2004 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships last weekend in Mankato, MN. Keenan Spiess of MSU-Moorhead was named the NSIC Coach of the Year.

The SMSU Mustangs finished 7-11 overall in the 2003-2004 season.

Southwest Minnesota State is a member of NCAA Division II and participates in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
