Rhoten named NCC Freshman of the Year

Mankato, Minn.-- Freshman 141-pounder Jason Rhoten (Kasson, Minn.) was rewarded for his breakout season by being named North Central Conference Freshman of the Year. He racked up a 32-6 record over the course of the season and was the top Maverick finisher at the 2004 NCAA Division II National Championships, earning All-American honors with a fourth-place finish. Three of his six losses came at the hands of Division I opponents from Indiana, Iowa and Boston. Of his three Division II losses, one was to Division II champ Merrick Meyer of Truman State and two were to third-place finisher Eli Dominguez of Nebraska-Omaha.
Rhoten, also an NWCA All-Academic Team member with a 3.59 grade point average in biology, is expected to move up to 149 pounds for the 2004-05 season.
