Trio of Gophers to represent U.S. at Junior Pan American Championships

University of Minnesota wrestlers Roger Kish, Mack Reiter and C.P. Schlatter have been selected to represent the United States at the Junior Pan American Championships in Maracaibo, Venezuela, July 22-25. The trio of redshirt freshmen represents nearly half of the seven-member 20-year old and under U.S. National Team.
A native of LaPeer, Mich., Kish recently won a Greco-Roman title at 84kg at the FILA Junior National Championships. He finished 9-4 during his redshirt season at 184 pounds with the Golden Gophers after enrolling at Minnesota as the nation's top-rated prep recruit. Kish is a former four-time Michigan state champion.
Reiter also won a Greco-Roman title at 60kg at the FILA Juniors Nationals. He was 13-1 this past season with the Golden Gophers and captured individual titles at the Kaufman-Brand and Flash Flanagan Opens. The first blue-chip recruit from the state of Iowa to wrestle for the Golden Gophers, Reiter was a four-time state champion at Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville, Iowa.
Schlatter dominated this past season with an 11-0 record with titles at 149 pounds at the Harold Nichols and Kaufman-Brand Opens. Of his 11 wins, three came by major decision, three by pins and two by technical fall. A native of St. Paris, Ohio, Schlatter won four state high school championships and finished his prep career with a 165-1 record. He will wrestle at 74kg at for the U.S. National Team.
The Junior Pan American Championships are being held in lieu of the World Championships which are not contested during Olympic years. Wrestlers will compete in both freestyle and Greco-Roman.
