FARGO, ND--North Dakota State University's wrestling program added three standout Minnesota prep wrestlers Thursday when it was announced that the trio had signed National Letters of Intent to attend NDSU and compete in the mat sport.
Bison head coach Bucky Maughan revealed that MIKE QUAMME of Northfield, Minnesota; ADAM AHO of Frazee, Minnesota; and ANDREW QUITTSCHREIBER of Frazee, Minnesota will join the nationally-renowned program. The signings occurred during the NCAA's early signing period.
Here is a capsule summary of each new signee:
MIKE QUAMME--One of the best wrestlers in the state of Minnesota, he carries a 146-35 mark into his senior season at Northfield High School...His 146 wins is just 11 victories shy of the school record of 157 and he should easily surpass that mark this season...Ranked number one in the state at 152 pounds in Class AAA...He is a three-time conference champion and the state runnerup in 2003 with a 39-1 mark...He has twice been named a NHSCA All-American...Member of the Minnesota Junior Duals Greco team that won the national championship and he was a 2003 Border Wars Champion...He is the son of Kraig and Teri Quamme of Dundes, MN.
ADAM AHO--Carries a 178-35 record into his senior year at Frazee High School where he has won 16 tournaments and placed second and third in the Minnesota state championships...Wrestles at 160 pounds and is a four-time sectional champion...Member of three state championship teams at Frazee under coach Clay Nagel who calls Adam "one of the best technicians to ever wrestle in our program...A smart, smooth wrestler with a winner's attitude."...He also played football and baseball at Frazee High School...Son of Marty and Diane Aho of Frazee, MN.
ANDREW QUITTSCHREIBER--A three-time Minnesota prep placewinner, finishing third in the state as a freshman, second as a sophomore, and first as a junior...Has a 121-21 career record entering his senior season at 140 pounds...Earned 2003 USA Wrestling Greco All-American honors and was a member of the 2003 Minnesota Academic All-State team...Helped his high school team to three straight Minnesota State team championships...Prep coach Clay Nagel calls Andrew "a mentally tough wrestler with a tremendous work ethic who just refuses to lose."...He is the son of Jim and Barb Quittschreiber of Frazee, MN.
Maughan commented on the trio, calling Quamme "one of the premiere wrestlers in Minnesota and a future star on the collegiate level."
He noted that "we are excited to have Adam and Andrew join our program. They are coming from one of Minnesota's premiere wrestling teams and should fit nicely into NDSU's move to Division I."
North Dakota State has won four NCAA Division II national championships (1988, 1998, 2000, 2001) and the Bison will move to the NCAA Division I ranks beginning in 2004-05.
