Mankato, Minn. -- The Minnesota State mat men competed in their first home event of the year as they took on #10 Augustana in a conference dual this evening.
After forfeiting the 125 match, the men had to come from behind.
Winning the first match of the day was 141 pound freshman Jason Rhoten (Kasson, Minn.). Rhoten defeated Augustana's Andre VanderVelde in a 10-6 decision to bring MSU their first points.
Freshman Sam Donner (Lakeville, Minn.) took the 157 match with a major decision over Kevin Sobolik to bring the overall score to 12-7 in favor of Augustana.
George Lynaugh (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), another frosh, took MSU's third win when he defeated Cody Henricksen in a 9-4 decision in the 165 bout.
174-pound freshman Travis Krinkie (Blue Earth, Minn.) brought MSU ahead for the first time when he defeated Dusty Wilking with a 12-5 decision.
Junior Josh Janousek (Greenbush, Minn.) took a win in the 197 match with a 7-6 decision over Tyler Bullerman of Augustana.
In the final match of the night, junior heavyweight Mike Engelmann (Spencer, Iowa) finished strong with a 10-2 major decision over Ray O'Conner to take MSU to a final score of 19-15
The Mavericks will next be in action tomorrow night when they compete at home against South Dakota State at 7 p.m.
