St. Cloud -- The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (0-3, 0-2 NCC) dropped a tough 31-9 loss to South Dakota State (3-4, 1-0 NCC) on Friday, Jan. 23, in St. Cloud. SCSU will complete the weekend of NCC duals with a 3 p.m. showdown against #9 ranked Augustana College on Saturday, Jan. 24, in Halenbeck Hall.
Mikal Peterson (Bemidji) gained the Huskies' first win of the night with a big 3-1 win over Craig Martinmaas of SDSU at heavyweight. SCSU completed the night with a forfeit win by Josh Lindquist at 125-pounds. The night started with an 8-3 loss by SCSU's Matt Jensen to SDSU's Jarrod Chapa at 133-pounds.
At 141-pounds, SDSU's Chad Herrboldt gained a 2:15 pin against SCSU's Tom Messerli. At 149-pounds, Jeremy Roe of SDSU used a third period takedown to gain a close 6-5 win over SCSU's Seth Cole. At 157-pounds, SDSU's Joe Kenton defeated SCSU's Blake Christopherson by a 5-3 margin. At 165-pounds, SCSU's Sean Bere lost to Nathan Althoff 7-2. In action at 174-pounds, SCSU's Dan Duch lost a tough 3-1 decision to Travis Gottschalk.
At 184-pounds, SDSU's Ben Ericks picked up a pin at 4:46 against the Huskies' Mike Gritti. To complete SDSU's winning streak, #4 ranked Tim Boldt posted a 13-1 win over SCSU's Kyle Stern.
