Minnesota State Takes Down MSU Moorhead
In a non-conference dual this evening, the #15 Minnesota State wrestlers took on MSU Moorhead, ranked #18, and won with an impressive score of 28-9.
Junior Josh Janousek (Greenbush, Minn.) started the evening in the 197 bout with a win by decision (6-4) over MSUM's #6 ranked Ryan Kopiasz, handing him only his second loss of the season.
For the heavyweights, junior Mike Engelmann (Spencer, Iowa) pinned Jordan Vallie in a mere 1:56 to get the only fall of the night.
After forfeiting the 125 match, the score of the match was MSU over Moorhead, 9-6.
For the 133-pounders, sophomore Bryce Bahe (Goodland, Kan.) won his match in a 8-4 decision to bring MSU up 12-6.
Freshman Jason Rhoten (Kasson, Minn.), 141, took his match with a 5-1 decision over Ben Keen.
In the 149 bout, frosh Brandon Girtz (Forest Lake, Minn.) also won in a decision, beating out Danny Meyer with a score of 6-4.
George Lynaugh (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), a 165-pound freshman, won his match in a 12-5 decision over Allan Huigens to bring the overall score to 21-9.
174-pound freshman Travis Krinkie (Blue Earth, Minn.) won his match with the only major decision of the night when he took Cody Ranz with a score of 10-2.
In the final match of the evening, Jon Dierks (Mankato, Minn.), 184, won with a 6-1 decision to end the night and took MSU to a final score of 28-9.
The Mavericks will next be in action tomorrow night when they compete in a home triangular with St. Olaf and Truman state in Bresnan Arena. Minnesota takes on St. Olaf at 6 p.m. and Truman State at 7:30 p.m.
