Minneapolis, Minn. - The 11th-ranked Golden Gopher wrestling team (7-6, 1-3) was upset by Purdue, 18-15, at Williams Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Boilermakers (16-4, 2-2) snapped a seven-match losing streak against Minnesota, while the Golden Gophers have lost three straight dual meets for the first time since 1996.
Purdue got off to a strong start with three wins in the first four matches. At 157, unranked Brad Harper upset No. 15 Matt Nagel of the Golden Gophers with a 6-4 decision in overtime. Harper scored the takedown 18 seconds into the overtime session.

Junior Casey Flaherty, filling in for two-time All-American Jacob Volkmann, tied the score at three with a 5-0 decision against Purdue's Bryce Markley at 165 pounds. The Boilermakers regained the lead as fifth-ranked Ryan Lange defeated No. 19 Jon Duncombe, 2-1, at 174 pounds.
Eighth-ranked Ben Wissel edged out Minnesota's Josh McLay with a 3-1 decision at 184 pounds. Wissel got the deciding takedown with less than a minute to go in the match.
Top-ranked Damion Hahn pulled the Golden Gophers to within three at 9-6 with a 5-1 decision against Nathan Moore. Hahn improved to 19-1 on the season and has won 29 of his last 30 matches dating back to last season.

Following intermission, 11th-ranked Israel Blevins upset Minnesota's Cole Konrad in overtime. Blevins got the deciding takedown with 20 seconds to go in the overtime period. Konrad entered the match ranked eighth in the nation.

After Purdue's forfeit at 125 pounds which tied the match at 12, Rene Hernandez gave Purdue the lead with an 11-6 decision against Quincy Osborn at 133 pounds.
16th-ranked Tommy Owen knotted the match at 15 with a 10-8 decision against Doug Withstandly at 141 pounds. Owen held an 8-3 lead in the third period and held on for the two-point victory.

The match came down to 149 pounds as Thomas McAlpine faced 18th-ranked Dan Jankowski. With the match tied at two in the second period, Jankowski scored five straight points to claim a 7-2 decision andclinch the win for Purdue. McAlpine was making his first appearance in the Minnesota starting lineup since early January.
Minnesota will hit the road for a pair of dual meets next weekend. The Golden Gophers will face third-ranked Illinois on Friday and will face Indiana on Saturday.
