FARGO, ND--North Dakota State won six matches Sunday to post a 24-15 victory over Augustana in North Central Conference wrestling before a crowd of 465 at the Bison Sports Arena.
North Dakota State (10-0, 3-0 NCC) used a 14-4 major decision from Brian Kraemer at 197 pounds and a pin by heavyweight Joe Bryce to jump out to a 20-8 lead and go on to victory.
Augustana (5-5, 1-2 NCC) had the first lead with a 2-1 decision by third-ranked Ryan King in the opener at 149 pounds over Zach Stevens. Stevens, ranked second, was penalized for stalling with 40 seconds left in the third period, and that was the difference in the match.
The Bison went ahead with a major decision from Paul Carlson at 157 and decisions from Mike Fiedler (165) and Thad Pike (174), but Augustana threatened again before intermission. Top-ranked Tom Meester won by fall at 184 pounds to pull the Vikings within 10-9.
Kraemer and Bryce won the next two matches and NDSU's Nick Magee (133) rolled up a 21-8 major decision in the ninth bout to seal the Vikings' fate.
With the loss, Augustana slipped into a tie for fourth place in the NCC with South Dakota State. The Vikings will host Northern State (SD) on Friday night at the Elmen Center.
First-place North Dakota State travels to South Dakota State on Saturday.
