GREELEY, CO--North Dakota State won the first three matches by fall and cruised to a 37-3 wrestling victory over Northern Colorado on Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 258 fans at Butler-Hancock Hall.
NDSU's pins came from senior Mike Fiedler at 165 pounds, senior Thad Pike at 174 pounds, and freshman Matt Hermann at 184 pounds.
Fiedler (22-6) recorded four takedowns and a pair of three-point near falls before pinning Matt Archbold in the second period. Pike (22-4) needed only 1:29 of the first period to retire Alex Joseph. Hermann (18-11) led Nathan Kimberlin 19-7 before pinning him 46 seconds into the third period.
The Bison rolled on from that 18-0 advantage with four more victories including Joe Bryce's second major decision in two days. Bryce improved to 23-6 with his 13-5 victory over Matt Sens.
Northern Colorado's only points came from Kyle LeValley, who was a 5-1 winner over Bison sophomore Mathias Bitz at 141 pounds. Bitz dropped to 19-12 on the year.
NDSU sophomore Zach Stevens (23-7) prevented back-to-back UNC wins with an overtime victory at 149 pounds. Stevens' takedown with 2 seconds left in the third period forced the extra session, and he won with a takedown 49 seconds into the first sudden victory period.
Bison backup Collin Kelly upped his record to 7-3 on the season with his second victory in two days. Kelly wrestled at 157 pounds against Air Force and UNC in place of defending national champ Paul Carlson.
It was the 17th meeting between NDSU head coach Bucky Maughan and his oldest son, Jack, the UNC head coach. Bucky improved to 16-0-1 against his son's program. The Bears dropped to 2-9.
North Dakota State (13-0) closes out its dual meet schedule Friday against Nebraska-Omaha at 7:30 p.m. at the Bison Sports Arena.
