Session 6 - Saturday Afternoon - Championship Match
#1 Damion Hahn, Minnesota dec. #10 Ryan Fulsaas, Iowa 7-2
Hahn shot a single leg, switched to a double and came through Fulsaas' legs behind him for a takedown. Hahn built 1:39 riding time and led 2-0 after the first. Hahn chose down. Fulsaas erased Hahn's riding time to :59 before Hahn escaped. Hahn led 3-0 after the second. Fulsaas chose neutral. Fulsaas closed the gap to 3-2 with a takedown. Fulsaas cut Hahn for a takedown. Hahn warned for stalling. Fulsaas' chin came down hard on Hahn's head and cut him on the top of his head. Injury time Fulsaas and blood time Hahn. Hahn got one of Fulsaas' legs on the edge of the mat. Hahn was able to grab his other ankle for the takedown with :23 seconds left to lead 6-2. Hahn rode him out. Scoreless first period. Each wrestler came out pretty cautious. Lewis chose down and got a quick escape. Lewis led 1-0 after the second. Volkmann chose down and got a quick escape. Lewis was awarded an edge-of-the-mat takedown, but the ref quickly waved it off. Match tied at 1-1 after regulation. Overtime: Lewis took a quick shot and drove Volkmann off the edge of the mat. Lewis came up with control of Volkmann's feet for a takedown four seconds into the overtime for the 3-1 win. Very little offense in this match.
