Jackrabbits to take on Mustangs at Frost Arena

BROOKINGS, S.D. -- After dropping two matches against Wyoming and Air Force this past weekend, the South Dakota State University wrestling team will take on Southwest Minnesota State at home this Saturday.
The Jackrabbits are 6-5 in duals this season, including a 5-4 mark against D-I opponents. Start time for the contest is 2 p.m. at Frost Arena. The Mustangs are coming off a 31-6 loss to Minnesota State, Mankato on Jan. 27 and a 33-14 defeat Tu e s d ay to Augustana. SMSU is 1-7 in duals heading into a dual tonight at Upper Iowa.

Wyoming 31, SDSU 15
The South Dakota State University wrestling team dropped to 6-4 in duals this season with a 31-15 loss at the University of Wyoming last Friday night.
The Jackrabbits picked up victories in three weight classes.Travis Gottschalk put SDSU on the board with a forfeit victory at 174 pounds and Cody Nehl followed with a victory by injury default at 197. Freshman Dusty Kavitz rounded out the SDSU effort with a decision at 141 pounds.
Air Force 37, SDSU 12
Air Force recorded five pins, sending South Dakota State to its third consecutive wrestling dual defeat Saturday.
With the 37-12 defeat, the Jackrabbits fell to 6-5 overall, including a 5-4 mark against D-I opposition.
SDSU started the match on a high note as junior 149-pounder Chad Herrboldt recorded a third-period pin over Josh Peterson.
However, the Falcons quickly gained the momentum with back-to-back pins at 157 and 165 pounds. Air Force added pins at 184, heavyweight and 133 to put the match away.
Winners by decision for the Jackrabbits included 174-pounder Travis Gottschalk and 197-pounder Cody Nehl. Nehl ran his winning streak to eight with a 5-2 victory over Brenden Mclean.
NEHL CONTINUES HOT STREAK: Cody Nehl saw his streak of recording a pin in six straight matches come to an end this past weekend, but the junior from Watauga recorded victories against the Air Force Academy and Wyoming to increase his win streak to eight straight matches. Nehl won his first match of the weekend against Wyoming's Malcom Havens by injury default and then proceeded to defeat Brenden McLean of Air Force in a 5-2 decision the next night. Nehl's streak of eight straight matches with a win has now brought his record to 13-10 on the year.
GOTTSCHALK SWEEPS WESTERN SWING: Travis Gottschalk, a sophomore from Kimball, Minn., went 2-0 in competition this past weekend. Gottschalk started off the western swing with a win by forfeit against Wyoming . The sophomore followed that up by recording a 9-6 decision over Jakob Lynes of the Air Force to move to 2-0 on the weekend. Gottschalk was one of only two wrestlers for SDSU to go undefeated in competition this past weekend -- the other was Cody Nehl.
JACKS DUAL TIMES ANNOUNCED: The South Dakota State University wrestling team will take on Northern State and Dakota We s l eyan on Feb . 15. Start time for the first contest against Dakota Wesleyan will be at 6 p.m., with the match against Northern State starting at 7:30 p.m. or immediately following the first match. Both matches will be wrestled in Frost Arena
JACKS ADD DUALS: The South Dakota State University wrestling team has lined up two more duals against Division I opponents for the 2004-2005 season.The Ja ckrabbits have added duals at Millersville (Pa.) on Feb . 18 and at American University in Washington, D.C., on Feb . 20.
LILES REACHES MILESTONE: South Dakota State University wrestling coach reached another career milestone at the Virginia Duals. Liles, in his 12th season as Jackrabbit head coach, recorded his 200th career dual victory Jan. 15 as SDSU defeated Duqusne (Pa.) 29-12 in the championship match of the Virginia Duals to capture the American College Division title. Liles has compiled a 111-68-1 mark while at SDSU.
JACKS ADD WRESTLER: The South Dakota State University wrestling team has added wrestler Scott Revier to the 2004-2005 roster. Revier who is a senior at SDSU, will wrestle at the heavyweight poistion for the Jacks. Revier is from Olivia, Minn. and moved to 1-4 on the year after last weekend.
