The 26th nationally ranked SJU wrestling team traveled to the 23rd annual Al Hanke Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 29, in Elmhurst, Ill. and finished third out of 10 teams. The Johnnies had 104 team points, compared to 121.5 points for Elmhurst and 106 points for Augustana, Ill.

SJU had two individual champions, a third place, three fourth place and one sixth-place finish. Junior Dan Willaert (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato Loyola) won the 184-pound individual title and is now 24-5 on the season. Junior Dan Fiecke (Winsted, Minn./Holy Trinity), ranked second nationally, won the 197-pound individual title and holds an 18-0 record so far this year. Junior Nate Schraan (Eagan, Minn.) took third place at 125 pounds and improved to 20-11 in 2004-05. The fourth place finishes were by senior Nate Lefebvre (Elk River, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) at 141 pounds, junior Jeff Snegosky (New Hope, Minn./Totino-Grace) at 165 pounds and freshman Jason Finley (Lake City, Minn.) at heavyweight. Junior Jaime Compean (El Paso, Texas) finished in sixth place at 133 pounds.

SJU is currently 2-10 overall in dual matches. The nationally ranked SJU wrestling team will host St. Olaf in a dual match at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2, in Sexton Arena and then host the annual North Country Tournament, starting at 9 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, in Sexton Arena.
