SDSU to wrestle Northern Iowa on Friday

BROOKINGS, S.D. -- After defeating Southwest Minnesota Stato this past weekend at home, the South Dakota State University wrestling team will take on Northern Iowa this Friday.
The Jackrabbits are 7-5 in duals this season, including a 5-4 mark against Division I opponents. Start time for the contest is 7 p.m. at Frost Arena.
The Panthers are coming off a 23-17 victory over Northern Illinois on Feb . 6, in which six Panther wrestlers recorded victory. Northern Iowa will take on North Dakota State on Feb . 10 before taking on the Ja ckr abbits. UNI is ranked 13th in the latest USA Today/ National Wrestling Coaches Association poll despite a 5-7 dual record. All seven of UNI's losses have come against teams currently ranked in the top 11 of Division I.
DUAL RECAP: SDSU 21, Soutwest Minn. State 15
The South Dakota State University wrestling team defeated Southwest Minnesota State 21-15 last Saturday afternoon.The Jackrabbits recorded five wins on the day, with one of them being by forfeit.
Scott Revier, a senior from Olivia, Minn., led the way for the Jacks, pinning Richard Roesler in the first period. Chris Werth a sophomore from St. James, Minn., defeated Kurt Smith, winning his match 14-8, while freshman Dusty Kavitz had a decision over Jeff Cooley, 4-3. Sophomore Levi Krehmeyer decisioned Ryan Gosch 10-3 in the 184-pound weight class. Alex Watkins won by forfeit. With the win, SDSU moved to 7-5 in dual competition on the year, while SMSU moved to 1-9.
FOUR-MATCH HOMESTAND: The South Dakota State University wrestling team defeated Southwest Minnesota State 21-15 last Saturday afternoon to win its first match of a four-match homestand.The Jacks will take on Northern Iowa this Friday and will conclude its home schedule against Dakota Wesleyan and Northern State on Feb. 15. SDSU has a 3-1 record at home this year.
REVIER GETS PIN: Scott Revier, a senior from Olivia, Minn., who joined the team at semester break, moved to 2-4 on the year this past weekend. Revier gave the Jacks a 6-0 lead to begin the match against SMSU, after recording a pin in 1 minute, 2 seconds. With the pin Revier now has recorded two pins on the year and was the only Jackrabbit to pin his opponenet against the Mustangs.
JACKS AGAINST DI: The South Dakota State University wrestling team has compiled a 5-4 record against Division I opponents so far this season and will look to improve on that mark against UNI.The Jacks have faced nine Division I opponents so far this season and will face four more by the end of the season, starting with this Friday' s dual against UNI. SDSU's last win over a Division I opponent at home was against Princeton (N.J .) on Dec. 10. The Jacks will end the year with three straight matches versus Division I opponents.
JACKS DUAL TIMES ANNOUNCED: The South Dakota State University wrestling team will take on Northern State and Dakota We s l eyan on Feb . 15. Start time for the first contest against Dakota Wesleyan will be at 6 p.m., with the match against Northern State starting at 7:30 p.m. or immediately following the first match. Both matches will be wrestled in Frost Arena.
JACKS ADD DUALS:The South Dakota State University wrestling team has lined up two more duals against Division I opponents for the 2004-2005 season.The Jackrabbits have added duals at Millersville (Pa.) on Feb . 18 and at American University in Washington, D.C., on Feb . 20.
LILES REACHES MILESTONE: South Dakota State University wrestling coach reached another career milestone at the Virginia Duals.
Liles, in his 12th season as Jackrabbit head coach, recorded his 200th career dual victory Jan. 15 as SDSU defeated Duquesne (Pa.) 29-12 in the championship match of the Virginia Duals to capture the American College Division title. Liles has compiled a 112-68-1 mark while at SDSU.
