Huskies head to Southwest Minnesota State

HUSKIES HEAD TO SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE: The St. Cloud State wrestling team (0-5, 0-3 NCC) will return to the mat as they head to Southwest State University (1-14, 0-2 NSIC) on February 17 for a duel meet. The event is set to start at 7:00 p.m.

#1 UNO DOMINATES SCSU: The UNO wrestling team rolled over SCSU on Friday, February 11 at Halenbeck Hall. The nationally top-ranked team won all but one match in the dual, resulting in a final score of 42-3 in favor of the Mavericks. UNO has six wrestlers ranked among the top 10 in the nation. SCSU's solo win came from sophomore Mike Gritti. The loss drops SCSU's record to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the NCC. UNO posts a 8-1 overall record and remain undefeated in the NCC, 3-0. HUSKY WRESTLERS FALL AT SJU: St. John's University posted a 31-6 win over St. Cloud State University in a non-conference wrestling match at Sexton Arena on Feb. 12 in Collegeville. St. Cloud State earned victories at 165 where junior Nate Schut decisioned Jeff Snegosky, 5-3 and 174 where sophomore Sean Beere decisioned David Sadder, 1-0. Beere evened his 2004-05 record at 5-5 with the win. The Huskies fall to 0-5 in dual competition while SJU is 4-10 overall in dual meets this season.

SCSU COACHING STAFF: The Huskies are led this season by Steve Grimit (Western Illinois, 1987). Grimit is in his 12th season as head coach of the Huskies. Grimit has led the Huskies to a 62-81 overall/21-50 NCC record since 1993. In 2003, he led his wrestling squad to a ninth place finish at the NCAA Championships. Grimit joined the SCSU staff following four seasons at Valparaiso (IN) University. As the SCSU wrestling coach, Grimit has enjoyed success during the past eleven seasons. In 1995, Grimit guided SCSU's Gene Hanemann to an NCAA Division II national title at 158-pounds. In 1996 and 1997, Grimit coached Andy Reigstad to consecutive runner-up finishes at the NCAA meet in the 150-pound category. Grimit graduated from Western Illinois University in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. He received a master's degree in sport management/ athletic administration from WIU in 1988.
