HUSKIES TO WRESTLE AT NCAA DIV. II NORTH REGIONALS: The St. Cloud State wrestling team (0-6, 0-3 NCC) will head to Southwest Minnesota State University for the NCAA Division II North Regional meet on Sunday, February 27. The event is set to start at 10:00 a.m.
HUSKIES DROP NON-CONFERENCE MATCH AT SOUTHWEST MINN. STATE: Marshall, Minn -- The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team defeated St. Cloud State University 35-10 in a non-conference match on Thursday, Feb. 17 in Marshall. Southwest Minnesota State opend the match with victories at 133, 141, 149, and 157. SCSU's first points of the match came at 165 where Nate Schut pinned Greg Frank at 1:53. The Huskies also got a win from Lucas Pohlmeier at 184. Pohlmeier defeated Ryan Gosch, 9-0.
TEAM NOTES: In 2004-2005, SCSU's Lukas Pohlmeier currently leads the Huskies with seven wins at 184 pounds....The NCAA Division II championships will be hosted by #1 Nebraska-Omaha on March 11-12 in Omaha, Neb. at the SAPP Field House...three of the seven teams in the North Central Conference are ranked in the nation's top 20 Division II poll; Nebraska-Omaha is ranked #1, Minnesota State, Mankato is ranked #2, and Augustana College is ranked #4....Of note, Minnesota State-Moorhead is ranked #16 and Southwest Minnesota State has received votes for the Division II top 20 poll....At the NCAA DII Regional in 2004, the Huskies placed ninth overall, and Derek Miller did qualify for the national meet last year at 133- pounds. He posted a 1-2 record at the national meet in 2004...the Huskies had an incredible finish by the 2002-2003 wrestling team. The team sent four Huskies to Nationals and three became All-Americans, allowing a 9th place team finish at the NCAA Division II championships.
SCSU COACHING STAFF: The Huskies are led this season by Steve Grimit (Western Illinois, 1987). Grimit is in his 12th season as head coach of the Huskies. Grimit has led the Huskies to a 63-87 overall/21-52 NCC record since 1993. In 2003, he led his wrestling squad to a ninth place finish at the NCAA Championships.
